My Story
I have always identified as an athlete. Someone who is ambitious, goal-oriented, enjoys working with others in a team atmosphere, and thrives when put into leadership roles. Unfortunately, the same drive and determination that made me a great athlete were the characteristics that allowed my eating disorder to take hold of me mentally and physically. My disordered eating and exercise behaviors were something that periodically visited me in both my childhood and young adult years. However, once I became a competitive CrossFit athlete and started strictly tracking my food consumption, my eating disorder had me in a complete chokehold. After nearly six years of abusive behavior, I admitted to myself that there was something terribly wrong and that I needed to seek help.
In 2017, I began treatment. I dove into my recovery with the same dedication and commitment that I had put toward athletics, and frankly, I had put into attempting to change my body. Nothing would stop me from finding happiness and freedom with food and my body. With the help of my treatment team, and my desire to enjoy life, I began a new chapter that has been full of peace, loving relationships with others and self, and freedom from restrictive eating habits and abusive exercise routines.

Why I Became a Recovery Coach
Having gone through recovery, I can see how much richer life is on the other side. Now that I stand on solid ground, I look back and am beyond grateful that I made it through the most challenging obstacle of my life: regaining the strength of my healthy self. My recovery journey has provided me a life free of food and body shame. It has given me the ability to be fully present as a mom, wife, sister, and friend. It allows me to appreciate travel, meals out with family, holidays, and so much more. I hope that by becoming an eating disorder coach, I will help others find this place of peace and serenity.
Having traveled my own recovery journey I appreciate the importance of having that support that continues into the navigation of real-world challenges. My firsthand recovery experience and my education in eating disorder recovery allows me to understand what my clients are experience and gives me the knowledge to help them conquer those challenges. I want to be an eating disorder coach to provide support to others through the sticky parts of recovery. I want to give those individuals the sympathy that someone who has experienced an eating disorder can provide.
“Emily is a wonderful coach.
She’s a thoughtful and patient listener, and at the same time is able to concretely challenge clients and help them set and achieve goals around their behaviors, thoughts, movement, and relationship with food. Additionally, by providing support and accountability between sessions, she is able to help clients find and strengthen their healthy voice in challenging moments. Being recovered herself, she also uses her lived experience in a supportive way and truly gives clients hope that there is full life beyond an eating disorder.”
It's your time to Grö
I want to help you find the same place of peace and serenity that I found in my own life. We can do that together. All it takes is reaching out for the help you deserve.
